Four-star review for "Communication" on UK release

The actors play the characters with raw honesty, making the characters believable while playing on expectations and assumptions. Clearly Jacob is struggling with Orthodox views of homosexuality, although filmmaker Banks never pushes the point: is he wondering about Andrew or himself? It doesn't really matter, actually, as the film has other things to explore.

The artist is the subject of the first ever full-length film to be produced by Auckland gay film-making charity Number 8 Films, which follows him in New Zealand and across to France.

The subjects of mental health and homosexuality are tackled head-on in a new short film. The Colonel's Outing follows the story of an elderly man living in a resthome who is unhappy with his life until a fellow war veteran arrives. The pair find happiness together. The film's world premiere is in Miami this month.
